vii. Looking forward
to joining the European Union, and to the day when Turkey does likewise |
Comments
It is not the business of a
constitution concerning Cyprus to include clauses dealing with the affairs
of a foreign state least of all one which does not recognise it or respect its
unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity or the human
rights of its people. Separate treaties with Turkey which provide for mutual recognition
and respect and mutual obligations are what are needed and these must be
negotiated independently.
It is the EU's business to determine
weather Turkey should be a member on the basis of it fulfilling the EU’s
membership criteria not that of Cyprus or Kofi Annan.
Paragraph vii. must be amended as
follows or removed altogether.
