AN HEC PROJECT

The Missing Persons

Testimony of Turkey's Guilt

Secret History, Dead or Alive, Channel 4, 1994

In 1974 Turkey illegally invaded Cyprus in two waves in violation of the United Nations Charter and numerous Security Council resolutions. It proceeded to ethnically cleanse over 200,000 Greek Cypriots who made up 82% of the population from their homes in the north. One third of the islands population were made refugees in their own country. Towns, villages and hospitals were deliberately bombed.and chemical weapons were used against civilians. Over a thousand women including young girls were raped and over 5000 Greek Cypriots were killed. Thousands were brutally beaten and tortured and thousands more were put in concentration camps. 1619 prisoners including civilians who were taken captive never returned.

Channel 4 is a public service broadcaster subsidised by the British tax payer. The above clip can therefore be considered to be public domain and fair use is permissible given the nature of the content in context to the issue of the Missing Persons.
