--- The following letter is intended to convey to you our concerns that your announced visit to the Turkish occupied territories of Cyprus is against international law, and will obstruct and violate the human rights of 200,000 Greek Cypriot civilians who were ethnically cleansed by the invading Turkish military on July 20 and August 14, 1974. I am certain that you are unaware of the crimes and atrocities that have occurred in the Turkish occupied territories of Cyprus, and would like to ask that you halt your prospective plans to visit these territories. Merely visiting the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus is an unintended assault on the sovereignty and rights of the internationally recognized Republic of Cyprus, and serious political and diplomatic fallout will emanate from your prospective visit, and/or subsequent activities.

---The citizens of the Republic of Cyprus voted in a democratic referendum last April 24 to reject the United Nations conceived plan for Cyprus. Your prospective visit to Cyprus, and subsequent plans that are being considered for the occupied territories of Cyprus may be construed as blatant sabotage against the declared will of the Cypriot people, and of the diplomatic process that is intended to lead to a permanent and negotiable settlement that is fully consistent with the 1959 accords that established the Republic of Cyprus as a sovereign state, with dozens of United Nations Resolutions, with various rulings of the legal body of the European Union which has ruled that Turkey is in violation of international law by depriving the Greek Cypriot victims of Turkish ethnic cleansing of access to their homes and land. Any visit to the occupied territories of Cyprus will strike a blow against the democratically elected government of the Republic of Cyprus, and will serve to indicate your support for the appointed representatives of Ankara who are serving in the occupied territories not by democratic means, but by the power of Turkish tanks and weaponry.

--- I respectfully urge that you reconsider your decision and reverse your plans to visit the occupied territories of Cyprus. By doing so, you will gain the goodwill and respect of the internationally recognized and fully democratic Republic of Cyprus, and you will be contributing to the future peace and stability of Cyprus by refusing to extend support to the Turkish occupation. Please do not violate the rights of the 200,000 Greek Cypriot refugees who were driven from their homes because their presence in their land obstructed the expansionist appetites of Turkey's military influenced governments. I respectfully beseech you not to extend support to the Turkish colonization of Cyprus which violates the rights of both the Greek majority and the Turkish minority. Members of the latter community have been overwhelmed and terrorized into fleeing Cyprus as a result of the continued settlement in the occupied territories of the infamous Turkish Grey Wolves organization which was founded by a Nazi sympathizer named Alparslan Turkes.

---- The occupation rulers in the occupied territories of Cyprus are representative of Turkish ultranationalism, racism, and extremism. They have been presiding over the destruction of the religious and cultural heritage of Cyprus by destroying Greek Orthodox Churches of immense religious and historical significance. The infamy of this cultural genocide has been taken up by the American legal courts which in 1989 returned several Greek Orthodox Mosaics that had been plundered from a Cypriot Church to the jurisdiction of the Republic of Cyprus. There are numerous legal rulings that have dealt with the consequences of the Turkish invasions and occupation of Cyprus, and all have unanimously ruled against Ankara and its chosen representatives in the occupied territories. The occupied territories of Cyprus are ruled by unsavory political extremists.

-- For the welfare of all Cypriots who suffer as a result of the Turkish occupation of Cyprus, please reconsider and do not visit the Turkish occupied territories of Cyprus.
