Article 11 Reconciliation Commission
2. The Commission shall be composed of men
and women, in equal numbers from each constituent state, as well as at least
one non-Cypriot member, which the Secretary-General of the United Nations is
invited to appoint in consultation with the federal government and the
constituent states. |
Comments
This clause is far for being impartial. At present the Turkish Cypriots number 85,000 where as the Greek Cypriots, Armenians, Maronites, and Latin’s number 700,000. A ratio of 11% to 89% cannot possibly justify giving the residents of one constituent state the right to hold equal numbers of seats on the commission. The principle of proportionality must be respected.
The mandate for the commission which is to be created fails to recognise the historical fact that the division of Cyprus was not caused by the Cypriot communities not getting on with each other but because of an unprovoked brutal and savage invasion and ethnic cleansing of the Greek Cypriots perpetrated by Turkey which is described in detail by the first three reports of the European Commission of Human Rights (Cyprus vs. Turkey) and the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights against Turkey, which followed a coup to oust the President of Cyprus by the CIA controlled junta in Greece. The function of the commission should be about reconciliation between the people of Cyprus, Turkey and Greece.
